The Proposal

In 2023, 36th ART partnered with SPRAYFiNGER® and Hiawatha Collegiate High School (HCHS) and raised funds to begin transforming the unwelcoming and unsafe underpass beneath the Midtown Greenway/railroad bridge over 36th Avenue. We also petitioned the City of Minneapolis to add lighting under the bridge and we’re pleased to announce it will be installed later this spring! In 2024, we plan to work with HCHS to develop a curriculum for its groundbreaking public art class, raise funds, hire artists and, in mid-September, complete the unprecedented transformation of the entire bridge as a monumental gateway landmark connecting the Seward and Longfellow neighborhoods.
