Saturday, September 12
5-10pm
Brackett Park, 3600 East 28th Street, Minneapolis
Free and open to the public (rain or shine)
Bring your blanket, picnic, flashlights, lawn games and curiosity!
The first half of the event will be a community BYO picnic in our beloved Brackett Park, next to the rocket. Bring food and beverages and join your neighbors on the lawn. We will host yard games and enjoy a special visit from guest artist, Randy Walker, who converted the playground strcture into the public sculpture that it is today.
Please join us for the BYO community picnic, starting at 5 p.m. Enjoy live music, lawn games, gigantic bubbles and art-making activities. Listen to stories about the rocket from members of the original “Rocket Boosters” (neighbors who raised funds to turn the rocket into a sculpture), guest artist Randy Walker, community leaders and Duane “Digger” Carey, a Minnesota-born astronaut.
Once it’s dark, about 8:00 p.m., the renowned performance troupe TigerLion Arts and a team of young performers will present a unique kind of flashlight flash-mob, with fog, sound effects and dozens of flashlights. Join in the countdown to a simulated liftoff!
Additional outrageousness and audience engagement follow, featuring presentations by artists Paige Dansinger, Eva Adderley and pETER gIEBINK, from shadow puppets and costumed characters to deep space animations, virtual art, and more!
